FAD OR FISH AGGREGATING DEVICE, a anchored float found 10-35 miles offshore waters between 1,500-2,500 feet in depth. It has layers of debris between the surface and 300 feet in depth around the float.
Provides a ecosystem where baitfish can feed from the algae and microorganisms that grow around them and also take shelter around the tarp or palm leaves that are tied to the rope that holds a lot that indicate their position.
While prey/ baitfish so round the near waters around the fads, at a distance predators lurk waiting to pounce on the bait balls that get separated from the FAD. Coming in and out of a selected few raises your chances to cross these pelagic species and get a hookup faster than you think.
